I am truly surprised by how much I am getting into this process. I have never had a dream of a wedding…in fact, it wasn’t something I really looked forward to until now. John and I were so “blah” on the idea that we just pushed it aside and decided to start a family first (to the dismay of many family members…you know who you are!).
At first I was overwhelmed by the process and I only felt stressed. Then one Friday evening a few weeks ago, John and I took the kids to Narragansett beach on a warm late-September afternoon and while we were there I ran into a friend (who also happens to be planning a wedding) and our conversation really lit me up and erased all the stress. It felt like an answer to my prayers (I believe it was) and since then, I’ve had quite a lot of fun with the planning! Thank you, Tracy 🙂
My biggest tool in attempting to plan a rather large, rustic, seaside wedding has been to basically talk to everyone I meet about it. I ask all sorts of questions, and I get so many amazing responses! I find over and over in life that people really are willing to help – but you must ask. Even in this crazy world, I still have a lot of faith in the goodness of others.
So – I’ve got the big things figured out…I think. The place, the catering, the music, the cake, the photography, pretty much everything except the dress and decorations. Now I have a whole lot more asking to do! Stay tuned for the next post…I am going to talk about how I am going to plan a (stress-free) wedding on a shoestring budget of $5000. Yep, you heard that right! Just for comparison…the average Rhode Island wedding (as of last year) cost around $34,000. Time to get thrifty…
